fuck you fundamentalist fascists!

You know how a lot of these fundamentalist christians and muslims (and no, I don't mean all or even most christians or muslims) are always inferring, saying, and acting as if women are inferior to men somehow, because their own ancient creation myth says they were derived from the rib of Adam?

Here's a little factoid for them: the English word female is actually older in usage and origin than male. That's right all you woman bashers out there!
See the details in The American Heritage Book of English Usage:
http://www.bartleby.com/64/C005/008.html

Large parts of the bible's Genesis story, btw, are derived directly from even older mesopotamian (pagan) myths: http://www.bidstrup.com/bible.htm

And while we're talking about fundamentalists and their exclusionary "faith," the radical right's recent claims that our founding fathers were christian is also false. Get a view of that argument here:

Expand your mind!

ps: guess I am in an ornery mood this wet, gloomy morn

Wow. I'm a Christian and stumbled accidently onto your blog. Nobody I knows actually believes that women are inferior to men. The bible doesn't teach us that. But former cultures *did* treat women badly, yet Jesus' view of women was always loving and liberating. Btw, the Genesis account is not a myth. I'm sorry you've experienced so much negativity from women-bashers. You are precious in the sight of God. He loves you, created you, and wants you to live a new life. Go in peace.

Dear reader - I thank you and appreciate your comments and point of view. Unfortunately, moderate and intelligent people of faith like you seem to be in the minority around the world these days. But let me put one question to you: why do most christians always refer to god as "He"? I would assume that an omniprescient being would be far beyond mere human gender categories...

Hereis a quote from a prominent christian that I would guess reflects a common view among right-wing, conservative evangelicals:

Jerry Falwell on feminists: "These women just need a man in the house. That's all they need. Most of the feminists need a man to tell them what time of day it is and to lead them home."

James Dobson on women: "My observation is that women are merely waiting for their husbands to assume leadership."
